DigiBoox — formerly DigiBTW — aims at the freelancer and does something not every package does: your income tax return sits inside the same package. The difference is language, and how deep the bookkeeping goes.
DigiBoox is a Dutch bookkeeping package aimed at freelancers, formerly DigiBTW, with a free plan for invoicing only and a complete plan at €15 a month on an annual subscription, a 30-day free trial and apps for iOS and Android. It is the only one of the five that states no cap on your number of entries, and you can hire a bookkeeper alongside it for €66 a month. For the income tax return it has its own step-by-step wizard; filing that return costs €130 (€210 together with your tax partner). The only language DigiBoox states is Dutch, in a Dutch and a Belgian edition. The booxx package costs €19 a month and works in five languages — Dutch, English, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian — down to the ledger accounts and the outgoing email. If you are a freelancer, read Dutch comfortably and only want to invoice without paying for it, DigiBoox is cheaper and more direct; if you do not read Dutch, that is where it stops. DigiBoox also keeps the books of a private limited company (bv), but does not mention annual accounts or a KvK filing file. If you want to switch, you import your audit file (XAF) here.

you read Dutch comfortably;
you want a real app on your phone, in both app stores;
you want to be able to hire a bookkeeper alongside it.
Choose us if…
you read Polish, Hungarian or Romanian and Dutch gets in your way;
your ledger and your outgoing mail have to be in your language too;
you have a company and need annual accounts with a KvK filing file;
you want the explanations on your VAT return and the help in your own language;
you want time to try it: 90 days here instead of 30.
Yes, if your previous package can produce an audit file (XAF). According to the Dutch Belastingdienst most Dutch accounting packages support it. You import the file here, including your chart of accounts, your entries and your open items.
Can I switch halfway through the year?
Yes. You pick a start date, import your audit file or your opening balance, and post here from that point on. The periods you've already filed with your previous package stay there.
Will my bookkeeper work with this?
Yes. In booxx you invite them for free with the Bookkeeper role: they post entries, manage the ledger and prepare the VAT return in your administration, and each of you works in your own language. Letting your bookkeeper in is possible in most packages: according to their own websites it is free in Moneybird (Bookkeeper role, does not count towards your user limit), e-Boekhouden.nl and MoneyMonk; in Jortt you invite them as a user or they link your administration from their bookkeeper portal, in DigiBoox you add them as an extra user (cost not stated), and in eFaktura they can look in on every plan. If they'd rather work in their own package, they get the audit file (XAF) in the format they're used to.
I'm a bookkeeper with clients of my own. Which package has an environment for a firm?
Most of them. According to their own websites, Moneybird has a free firm environment in which the business owner takes the subscription; with e-Boekhouden.nl the invoice goes to the firm or to the client; Jortt has a bookkeeper portal for a monthly amount, in which every client the firm registers is a paid subscription; with MoneyMonk the firm can buy licences itself. eFaktura has a free panel for verified bookkeeping firms, and DigiBoox does not mention a firm environment. In booxx you request a firm environment: one worklist across all your clients, while your client reads their own screen in Polish, Hungarian, Romanian or English. Your firm pays from €9 per managed administration per month, excluding VAT, with no fixed firm fee.
Because you're going to compare anyway, and because we aren't better on every point. Above, per package, you'll find when you're better off there. That's fairer, and it saves you a month of trying things out.
